2 in 5 people in Scotland can’t work at all without flexibility.
This is particularly an issue for women, but also impacts anyone for whom the Mon-Fri 9-5 in their employer’s location doesn’t work. This includes people who are neurodivergent, parents, carers, disabled, who have chronic health conditions, even workers from minoritised ethnic backgrounds.
Scottish organisations and businesses who don’t offer flexible and part-time working patterns are missing out on this talent pool. There is a vibrant, supportive community of 22,000+ people behind Flexible Working Scotland. One of them might be you. Or they might be your next employee.
Despite 85% of Scottish workers having or wanting flexibility, only 30% of jobs are advertised as flexible. Those vacancies which indicate flexibility are not specific enough to reassure candidates that they can actually do the job. And employers struggle to find the talent they need.
Flexible Working Scotland seeks to leverage the demand for flexible working to revolutionise recruitment by enabling employers to showcase positive workplace culture and candidates to find work that works so that both can thrive.
We want to encourage a greater number of employers to discuss with staff and candidates how, where and when they can deliver their best work. We want to move away from fluffy phrases such as “open to talking flexible working” and towards a diversity of working patterns supporting diverse, productive teams. Are you with us?
